Ties That Bind

Ties That Bind are a series of pieces that look at the ties we all have to the past. The pieces highlight how the abolishment of the slave trade in the 19th century resulted in the equivalent of £85 billion, in compensation, being paid to slave owners, much of which ended up financing the industrial revolution, a revolution many of us benefit from today. The freed slaves received nothing. Britain has never apologised for its participation in the slave trade.
